What makes it special

Many Kolkata biryani places try and find a link to Waijd Ali Shah’s time in Metiabruz where his Awadhi chefs adopted the traditional Lucknow pulao to what is now called Calcutta biryani. But Royal was started in 1905 by Ahmed Hussain who came directly to Kolkata from Lucknow. The fifth generation now runs the restaurant and at the Park Circus branch, they make the potatoes separately and add them to the biryani if requested.
